Mykonos 2017

So after visiting Santorini in 2016 it was inevitable that I would have to visit Mykonos to see the difference and what all the talk was about. Santorini was an incredible island, but yet many people  there that we spoke to couldn't recommend Mykonos enough. So when we got back from Santorini we decided to book up Mykonos and get going.

Mykonos was noticeably dearer than Santorini from the get go, flights were cheap in the BA sale but the hotel made up for the savings we just had, but it was all worth it.

So flying out from Heathrow we boarded our BA flight to Mykonos, 3 hours and 40 minutes later we arrived in not so sunny Mykonos. We didn't let that damper our spirit, we waited for our driver in the warm rain and then made our way to Panormos beach, where we stayed for a week at Panormos Village. (Hotel: https://www.panormosvillage.gr/mykonos/index.html)

I booked mine & T's first holiday together to Santorini and pulled it out the bag with hotel and location, I needed to do the same with this holiday, so I searched high and low and found the perfect room.

So lets start with the room/hotel...

Enough said...

Waking up every morning to that view with the pool right there was just bliss, there is something about water that is so calming and peaceful. The room was beautiful, to match the rest of the hotel. The sun would eventually set in beautiful Mykonos and it would turn into a starry dream, the pool would light up and around us, so would Mykonos. The main pool lit up with star-inspired lights every night and the white wash and wooden effect of the hotel was stunning.

Every night before myself and T would go to the town we would have dinner at the hotel, usually room service. The food was beautiful and always so fresh tasting.

Spaghetti bolognase with a side of greek salad YUM (T likes greek salad not me). After dinner was usually when we would get a taxi into town, which was always quite expensive (15/20 euro). In town, there wasn't bundles to do, you could go for dinner/ drinks or have a walk around and take in the beautiful scenery and weave in and out of the lanes and shops. Mykonos is like a little maze, much like Santorini only flat, which makes it more bearable to walk around. In and out the winy, narrow streets, you stumble upon some beautiful scenery and delicate looking shops, all hosted by the most welcoming shop owners.

The cool thing about Mykonos also are the parts of the island it is famous for. Seeing the windmills in real life is surreal, they are huge! Also the size of the pelicans was beyond me, I couldn't believe how big they were. We were told by a local that they are a rare sight so if you manage to see one you had the true Mykonos experience.

Mykonos night life seemed booming when we were out exploring, everyone was drinking and have the best time. It was great to watch, but all myself and T could think about was getting back to the room and getting in our private pool. I felt like a celebrity for a week, the private pool was the perfect touch to the room.

Mykonos weather was pleasant whilst we were there. I love the heat, T not so much. It was an average of 26/27 Celsius everyday. The sun was always shining which always set your mood up for the rest of the day.

Most days we spent lounging around our pool and drinking away, some days we even ventured outside the room and went down to the beach, which was relatively quiet. The beach was beautiful and the sea was warm, blue and perfect, just as you dream about.

The walk down to the beach was only 5 minutes, which is always handy! The only thing that does get in the way in Mykonos is the WIND! Mykonos is known for its windy, it certainly lived up to its name.

The holiday was amazing and the hotel was absolutely perfect, no doubt about it. The big question is, Santorini or Mykonos? What greek island is better, what has more to do, what one is prettier than the other? I simply say 50/50. Depending on the type of person you are may lean you towards one or the other. If you want a city break vibe, with breathtaking scenery but also like to chill out, then Santorini. If you love to live it up a little more, drink... a lot, and don't like lots of steps then Mykonos is your winner.

With that said, I would say if you could, visit both. These two islands are like nothing else, you don't even feel like your in Europe and that a place like this is only a few hours away via plane.

So adios to Mykonos & Santorini, until next time.
